HMS Victory Sloop
My second model ship project is the 1:16 scale sloop from the HMS Victory by Panart models.
What follows are a series of images and notes as I work through the build. First observation is that the instructions are not clear and detailed, neither do they appear to have been updated since the model was first produced in the 1960s! As my second model of this type I notice this seems to be a theme with poorly translated low detail instructions.
Again I have converted the typed and photocopied set that came with the kit into an electronic document. I then adjusted the layout to a series of instruction steps from the figure references it was in originaly. This made the process easier to follow, but did nothing to improve the tortuous 'legalese' English that was provided.
One point that is made in both instructions early on that bears repeating, particularly for beginners time modelers, is to read the instructions through several times - BEFORE - starting on the model! Learning from my first model, I listed and labelled all the timbers. This lead to the discovery that two profile neede to be replaced - one of the lime profiled was damaged and one of the walnut profiles had been replaced with lime.

The initial framework completed. I used hotmelt glue as the frame needs to be dismantled at a later stage. I found a better method to construct this frame on the Ships of Scale website, but unfortunately after I had put this together. | 10/09/24 |

Starting the second layer of planking. Have discovered why the first layer had gaps at prow. This was because I hadn't been reducing the width of the planks at that end, which causes them to twist and gaps to open. Fortunately this model has a smoothed and painted hull, so hopefully won't be too obvious in the finished model. | 10/09/24 |
