Archery

Some musings on what I am doing in archery at the moment - Ideas, scores, trials and tribulations, and whatever hair-brained ideas I am working on at the moment. As far as the tools are concerned I have two additional pages, one for the electronic aids (mostly iPhone based) and one for the equipment I have built. All are available for purchase through the links on this site.

Shooting history

I took up archery in about 2010, like most people I started with a recurve bow a Hoyt Formula. I realy enjoyed this bow, but unfortunately I tried to over reach the bow and ended up displacing a tendon in my wrist. Faced with a choice between stopping shooting for 6 months or moving to the 'Dark Side' I bought a compound bow. My first compound bow was a Hoyt Vector 35, this is now being converted into a clout and field bow as I have recently bought a Hoyt Podium X Elite.

Kit Configurations

The first bow I bought was a Hoyt Formula with 32lb Excel limbs (28lbs at my draw length). After a brief trial with a Cartel longrod I bought a set of Fuse stabilisers that I have liked so much that I am still using the long rod. I had a Shibuya sight with this bow which worked well. For all the time I shot this bow I had Easton X7 arrows for it.

This was then followed by a Hoyt Vector 35 - you may spot a trend here. I changed the stabiliser configuration from long rod and twins to long rod and side arm. Still going with what you know I teamed this with a Shibuya scope and later added the fibre optic kit to it. I shot this bow in target configuration at 45lbs and 50 lbs teamed with first Easton ACG arrows and then X10 Pro Tours. I have since reconfigured it as a clout bow at 45lbs draw weight and shooting very heavy Easton XX7s with 200 grain points.

I am now shooting a Hoyt Podium X Elite at a draw weight of 55lbs though I may wind it up to 60lbs. This is teamed with a beiter rest, Tru Ball sight and Easton X10 Protours.

With the compounds I started with a MAC trigger release, but have now moved on to a Tru Ball hinge type release.
